my laptop will turn 4 years old in the next few months and, sad to say, it is starting to have its first symptoms of old age. when the battery gets down to around 20% the box o’ fun just shuts off; happened about four times in the past two days.
i checked out some info on the apple site and came across this bit of info that could be helpful for the rest of you. with my laptop sitting in the same spot for the past year, i should’ve tried the old battery removal trick a while ago…

My battery is failing. According to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store, the Apple batteries begin to fail after around 400 cha…Read morerges (which is where I’m at now). This means: charge your computer battery as infrequently as possible!! If you’re using your laptop as a desktop machine in one place for a period of time, remove the battery and run the computer off the electricity from the plug and your battery won’t charge unnecessarily. Don’t charge your battery until it is dead, and it will last longer. Battery info for your machine can be found in the “System Profiler.” When used properly, Apple batteries will last for quite some time.

let me correct you, your BATTERY is failing not the computer.
Battery is removable, ergo for shiny 40-60$ you can have yourself a new one.
But we all know you just want a new computer, so go ahead. Have the little chineese children make you a new one like the did for me just this last week!!!:)
